Television and screens in the bedroom: Are they useful for a child?

We all know of school-age children including teens who have a television or video game system in their bedroom. Common sense would indicate that these devices might not help a child’s focus when working on assignments and even to fall asleep easily. Recent research in Developmental Psychology indicated that children spent more time watching screens and less time reading and sleeping, which led to poorer school performance. The researchers after conducting studies of 4,000 children in the third through the eighth grades in the US and Singapore also suggested that these same children were also more likely to be overweight and to watch more violent content, which was associated with increased physical aggression.
